
Michigan Battles LMU to Draw in Season Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team drew with Loyola Marymount, 0-0, on Thursday (Aug. 20) at U-M Soccer Stadium to start the 2026 season.
The Wolverines put together a persistent effort, outshooting LMU, 15-10, including four shots on target.
Nine different players made their Michigan debut on Thursday, including Alen Bean, who made his first start in net for the Maize and Blue.
Michigan created plenty of chances in a scoreless opening 45 minutes, recording eight shots, including two on target. Joao Paulo Ramos came closest to breaking the deadlock on a dipping free-kick attempt, but the shot was parried away by the LMU goalkeeper.
Michigan (0-0-1) kept the pressure on in the second half as Andrew Craig got his head to the ball in the box in the 49th minute and powered it toward the goal, where the shot was stopped by the Lions.
LMU (0-0-1) was reduced to 10 men in the 75th minute, and Michigan maintained an attacking mindset with several good chances around the goal, but the LMU defense kept the Wolverines at bay as the match ended scoreless after 90 minutes.
Next up, Michigan will welcome Niagara to U-M Soccer Stadium for a 4 p.m. match on Thursday, Aug. 27.
