Ramos' Penalty Kick Earns Draw at UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team rallied from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against UCLA on Friday (Sept. 18) at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.
Joao Paulo Ramos scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute to tie the game and earn a point for Michigan on the road.
Alen Bean was solid in net for U-M, making three saves in 90 minutes.
After a defensive first half, UCLA (3-1-3, 0-1-1 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the 50th minute, but the Wolverines responded with offensive pressure of their own.
Jake Tatch took aim at the bottom corner of the Bruin net, but the UCLA keeper was able to get down and block the shot.
Michigan (2-2-2, 0-1-1 Big Ten) earned its second penalty kick of the 2026 season as Thomas Fraser drew a foul in the UCLA box, and Ramos converted the chance to tie the game at one in the 63rd minute.
Both teams traded chances for the final 27 minutes, but the game remained tied at one apiece as the two sides shared the points.
Next up, Michigan will travel to Evanston, Ill., to take on Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed live on B1G+.
