
Northwestern Outlasts Michigan in Big Ten Battle

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Northwestern on Friday (Sept. 25) at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.
U-M controlled possession throughout the match and generated chances, including two on-target shots.
Northwestern (5-3-1, 2-1-0 Big Ten) took the lead in the 15th minute, but the Wolverines responded with consistent offensive pressure and possession on the attacking end of the pitch.
Michigan (2-3-2, 0-2-1 Big Ten) found itself a man up after a Wildcat defender was shown a second yellow card in the 32nd minute, and the Maize and Blue maintained its intensity heading to the halftime locker room despite trailing 1-0.
The second stanza saw the Wolverines completely control the ball with the extra man on the field.
The Maize and Blue generated a plethora of chances in the attacking third of the field, but Northwestern held firm to keep the ball out of the net.
Michigan's best opportunity of the night came as Will Baker headed a shot toward the bottom-left corner of the goal, but Northwestern's goalkeeper made a diving save to help secure the three points for the Wildcats.
Next up, Michigan will return to Ann Arbor to take on Oakland for Senior Night on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at 7 p.m.
