EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Junior Michael Ramirez converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute to lift the University of Michigan men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with No. 12 Michigan State on Tuesday (Oct. 13) at DeMartin Stadium.

Ramirez's late equalizer came after freshman Thomas Fraser drew a foul in the box, allowing the Wolverines to erase a 1-0 deficit and secure a Big Ten point on the road.

Michigan (3-4-4, 0-2-3 Big Ten) generated consistent pressure after halftime, outshooting the Spartans 9-4 in the second half. Isaiah Goldson made four saves in his second consecutive start in goal.

Following a scoreless first half, the Wolverines threatened early in the second as Austin Su and Alex Gimple each generated opportunities that narrowly missed the target.

Michigan State (8-2-2, 4-1-1 Big Ten) broke through in the 69th minute to take a 1-0 lead. U-M continued to press forward, eventually creating its opportunity to equalize with five minutes remaining.

Fraser turned his defender and drew a foul inside the penalty area for his second earned penalty kick of the season after also drawing one at UCLA on Sept. 18. Ramirez stepped to the spot and converted the ensuing attempt to knot the game at 1-1 with less than five minutes to play.

Michigan had one final opportunity in the 88th minute, but Nico Pendleton's shot went wide left as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Wolverines return home for another matchup with a ranked opponent when they welcome No. 14 Maryland to U-M Soccer Stadium on Friday (Oct. 16) at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
