
Michigan Runs Past Oregon in Big Ten Win at Home

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team rolled to a 16-3 win over Oregon in Big Ten Conference action Sunday (March 29) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
After Oregon (6-6, 0-4 Big Ten) struck first with a pair of early goals, Michigan (9-2, 4-0 Big Ten) answered, outscoring the Ducks 16-1 the rest of the way to secure the Senior Day victory.
The Wolverines' defense set the tone, holding Oregon scoreless for a stretch exceeding 30 minutes. Jordyn Harrison led the effort with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Grace Callahan added six caused turnovers and three ground balls. Michigan limited the Ducks to just 11 shots overall, with only six reaching the cage.
Offensively, eight Wolverines contributed points in a balanced attack. Ava Class tied her career high with seven points, including six assists to match the program's single-game record. Emma Bradbury paced the team with five goals, while Caroline Byrd added four points on two goals and two assists. Ceci Stein recorded a hat trick, and Calli Norris chipped in two goals and an assist.
Sophomore Emma Burke won 14 draw controls for her fifth double-digit effort of the season and Callahan had two wins in the circle. Freshman Elizabeth Johnson earned the win in cage with two saves and Madeline Jensen made a save in the first quarter.
Oregon opened the scoring with the game's first two goals, but Michigan quickly responded, beginning with a Byrd goal off a Class assist. The Wolverines then surged ahead with four straight goals in a two-minute span to take a 5-2 lead after the first quarter.
Michigan's run continued as Norris netted the first goal less than two minutes into the second quarter. Merrifield then scored with 11 seconds remaining in the half for a 7-2 U-M lead at the half.
The Wolverines extended their run to nine unanswered goals in the third quarter, capped by a Peyton Shreves score off a Byrd assist. Oregon managed its final goal with 10:29 left in the third, but Michigan closed the game on a 7-0 run to seal the victory.
Michigan will remain at home for a midweek Big Ten Conference contest, hosting Ohio State Thursday (April 2) at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
