ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (11-4, 4-3 Big Ten) will wrap up the regular season at No. 16 Iowa (9-7, 2-5 Big Ten) on Friday (Nov. 1) in Iowa City. The game is slated for a 5 p.m. CDT start at Grant Field and will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan is tied for third in the Big Ten Conference standings -- with Ohio State -- with a 4-3 record against league opponents. Northwestern sits atop the conference standings with a 7-0 mark. U-M has earned shutouts in all four of its conference wins -- Michigan State (3-0, Sept. 23), Ohio State (1-0, Oct. 6), Rutgers (4-0, Oct. 11) and Penn State (6-0, Oct. 18) -- but have since lost three in a row.
• Senior/junior Abby Tamer and graduate student Kate McLaughlin share the team lead with 11 goals on the season -- career highs for both -- while Tamer also boasts a team-best 12 assists and 34 points. McLaughlin has scored twice over the last four games after missing all but a few minutes of the previous five games with injury.
• The Wolverines rank fourth nationally with a 3.73 goals-per-game average and rank third with a 2.65 scoring margin. Tamer and McLaughlin rank 20th nationally -- and fourth in the Big Ten -- with 0.73 goals per game, while Tamer also ranks fourth with 0.80 assists per game and eighth with 2.27 points per game.
• Senior/junior Emmy Tran scored Michigan's late game-tying goal against No. 1 Northwestern last Friday (Oct. 25), laying out to tip high a shot from Tamer on the arc. It was Tran's second career goal -- and first since 2021. She missed nearly all of last season due to injury.
• Fourteen U-M players have scored at least one goal this season, including six different goal scorers in Michigan's win at Penn State. With 56 total goals on the season, the Wolverines have long since surpassed their entire 2023 total (38).
• U-M also ranks sixth nationally with a 1.06 goals-against average, while sophomore/freshman Hala Silverstein ranks 10th individually with her 1.14 goals-against average. Michigan has earned shutouts in seven of its last 11 games, including four of seven Big Ten matches. Silverstein owns two complete-game shutouts this season and combined with senior/junior Caylie McMahon for five more.
• The Wolverines' 11-game game winning streak was snapped with a 2-0 defeat at No. 8 Maryland on Oct. 20. The win streak tied Michigan's longest since starting the season 11-0 in fall 2021. Michigan has outscored its opposition 53-6 over the stretch.
• Iowa is 9-7 on the season and 2-5 in Big Ten play after splitting a pair of road games last weekend, falling to Michigan State 2-1 in overtime on Friday (Oct. 25) before bouncing back with a 3-0 shutout against Ohio State on Sunday (Oct. 27). Dionne van Aalsum leads the Hawkeyes in scoring with nine goals and one assist, while goalkeeper Mia Magnotta carries a 1.15 goals-against average and .762 save percentage. Iowa carries a 45-32-0 advantage in the all-time series against Michigan. The Wolverines have won four of the last five meetings, but Iowa took the most recent one -- a 2-0 decision last season in Ann Arbor.
