WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (1-1) fell 2-0 to No. 7 Wake Forest (1-1) at the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 30) at Wake Forest's Kentner Stadium.

Wake Forest held Michigan shotless in the first half, firing five shots, including four in the first quarter, to force a pair of saves by goalie Hala Silverstein. The Demon Deacons got on the board late in the second quarter, with Mia Montag converting a penalty corner at the 24:31 mark.

Eva Bernardy recorded the first shot of the day for the Wolverines in the third quarter on a penalty corner attempt, but Wake Forest goalie Ruby Butterfield made the save to keep U-M off the board. The Wolverines drew a pair of back-to-back corners with less than five minutes remaining in the third, but neither Bernardy nor Abby Burnett could find the back of the cage.

The Demon Deacons put the game away early in the fourth quarter, converting their second penalty corner of the day at the 51:39 mark. Cami Wiseman fired a pair of shots with less than two minutes left on the clock, but Butterfield made the stop both times.

The Maize and Blue will open their home slate on Friday (Sept. 4) against Kent State at 5 p.m. before closing out the weekend against Vermont on Sunday (Sept. 6) at 2 p.m. Both games at Phyllis Ocker Field will be streamed live on B1G+.
