ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team fell 5-2 to No. 2 Maryland on Friday (Oct. 9) at Phyllis Ocker Field.

The first half was quiet, with both teams taking just eight shots and drawing five corners.

The Terrapins (12-0, 3-0 Big Ten) got on the board at the 39:37 mark before going up 2-0 less than one minute later. Maryland kept up the momentum, scoring two goals in 30 seconds to close out the third quarter with a 4-0 lead.

Natalie Millman put Michigan (5-6, 1-4 Big Ten) on the board just over one minute into the final frame, carrying the ball into the top of the circle and slipping it into the bottom-left corner of the cage. Millman was able to cut into Maryland's lead again at the 53:42-minute mark, tipping in a pass from Esmée de Willigen thanks to an intercept from Kelsey Reviello.

Maryland put the game away in the final five minutes, with Maci Bradford scoring her second of the game at 55:58.

The Terrapins outshot the Maize and Blue 13-8, putting seven on target to Michigan's four, but Millman led both teams with three shots on the day. The Wolverines successfully defended five of Maryland's six penalty corners.

Michigan will close out its four-game homestand with No. 18 Monmouth at 11 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 11). The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
