BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team fell 1-0 at No. 18 Indiana on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 26) at Deborah Tobias Field.

Michigan (5-3, 1-1 Big Ten) controlled the ball early, generating four shots and three penalty corners in the first quarter. Both goalkeepers led stout defenses, recording five saves between them to keep the game scoreless through the first 15 minutes.

Indiana (6-3, 2-0 Big Ten) controlled the offensive tempo in the second quarter, taking five shots while holding Michigan without a shot attempt. IU drew the lone corner in the second frame, but the teams remained scoreless heading into halftime after a pair of saves from Hala Silverstein.

The Hoosiers drew a penalty corner in the first minute of the third, converting to get on the board at the 30:58 mark. The Wolverines tried to find the equalizer with two shots that were cleared by the IU defense and went into the final frame down 1-0.

U-M earned two penalty corners in the final 10 minutes of the game, firing a pair of shots that were again stopped by the IU defense. Michigan pulled Silverstein from goal with less than five minutes remaining in the game but could not capitalize on the extra-attacker opportunity, and Indiana sealed the win.

Silverstein recorded a season-high six saves and came just one shy of tying her career high. The Maize and Blue won the corner battle 5-3, but Indiana outshot Michigan 12-8, putting seven on target to U-M's four. Abby Burnett and Maxine Rogge led U-M with two shots apiece, and Celia Arroyo Cabezudo led both teams with three.

Michigan will return home for a four-game homestand, continuing conference action against Iowa on Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. and Northwestern on Oct. 4 at noon. Both games will be streamed live on B1G+.
