ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team (0-1, 0-1 Big Ten) continues its road stint as it heads to No. 10 Maryland (0-1, 0-1 Big Ten) for a two-game series beginning Friday (Feb. 26) at 4 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md. The Wolverines and Terrapins conclude their series Sunday (Feb. 28) at noon.
Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines come into the second weekend of the season ranked No. 17 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll after falling to Ohio State, 15-12, on the road in the season opener.
• Senior Molly Garrett paced the Wolverines at Ohio State last weekend, scoring four goals. She capitalized on three free-position opportunities and scored the first goal of the game for the Maize and Blue. The graduate student also had two draw-control wins, two caused turnovers and picked up one ground ball against the Buckeyes.
• Seniors Caitlin Muir and Maggie Kane, along with redshirt senior Nadine Stewart each scored a pair of goals at Ohio State for the Wolverines. Muir added two assists to tie a team-best four points, while Kane had one assist and two draw controls. Muir also picked up a team-best three ground balls and Stewart one.
• Junior Kaley Thompson added to the goal scoring for U-M with a pair of goals, putting both shots she took into the back of the net. Thompson also had one draw-control victory.
• Five freshmen made their collegiate debuts for Michigan at Ohio State: Caroline Bean, Annabelle Burke, Maddie Burns, Caroline Davis and Josie Gooch. Bean and Davis both earned starts in their first collegiate appearances, while Burke, Burns and Gooch all came in off the bench. Bean recorded her first collegiate points with two assists and added a ground ball, while Davis also had an assist and two ground balls and Gooch won a draw control.

Maryland
Michigan trails the all-time series, 5-0
Michigan will be looking for its first win over the Terrapins after dropping its first five contests. U-M and Maryland did not meet in 2020 as the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Wolverines took a 14-3 loss in the last meeting between the two squads in 2019.
The Terrapins suffered a 15-13 loss in their season opener at No. 21 Penn State. Libby May leads UMD in almost all offensive categories, scoring four goals and adding two assists and two draw-control wins at Penn State. In goal, Emily Sterling made eight saves in Maryland's loss.
