GILBERT, Ariz. -- University of Michigan seniors Sam Swenson and Katie Trombetta were selected to participate in the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game, the NFHCA announced on Wednesday (Oct. 18). The duo was listed among 38 total selections, while Michigan was one of just three programs with multiple participants.
Coinciding with the NCAA Championships, Louisville will host the annual competition on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. EST, at Trager Stadium. Any individual whose team makes the final four will not participate in the all-star contest, which is slated the day between NCAA semifinals and championship game.
Swenson, a 2015 NFHCA All-American, currently ranks among the NCAA active career leaders with a 1.08 goals-against average and .776 save percentage over her four seasons in the Michigan cage. Swenson has contributed to nine shutouts in her senior campaign -- including eight over the last 10 games -- and ranks among the national leaders in win percentage (2nd, .867), goals-against average (3rd, 0.88) and save percentage (6th, .797).
Trombetta, a 2016 NFHCA All-American, has anchored a defensive unit that has allowed a 0.83 goals-against average, nine shutouts and just 7.4 shot attempts per game. Trombetta is a key component of the Wolverines' offensive and defensive corner units; she also boasts a pair of goals and seven assists. Over her four-year career, she owns 13 goals, 12 assists and four defensive saves.
Michigan will recognize Swenson, Trombetta and its other four seniors prior to its final regular-season home game this Friday (Oct. 20) when it takes on No. 8 Northwestern at 4 p.m. at Phyllis Ocker Field. Admission is free, and the game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
