TUCSON, ARIZ. -- The University of Michigan baseball team was shut out for the second time in three games as host Arizona exploded for 20 hits in a 14-0 Wolverine loss on Sunday afternoon (March 15) at Sancet Stadium.
U-M sophomore starting pitcher Travis Smith(Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) lasted just two-and-one-third innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs to take the loss -- his second of the season -- as six different Michigan hurlers saw the mound.
The Michigan offense threatened early in each of the first four innings, getting the leadoff man aboard three times but failed to score, producing just six hits on the day with no Wolverine collecting more than one. Senior second baseman Kevin Cislo(Novi, Mich./Novi) extended his team-high hitting streaks to 11 games in the loss, while sophomore centerfielder Ryan LaMarre(Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) saw his 10-game streak come to an end.
The Wolverines are back in action on Friday (March 20) when they make their 2009 home debut against IPFW at the Wilpon Baseball Complex, home of historic Ray Fisher Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
