Michigan at 2019 NCAA College World Series
The 2019 Michigan baseball season will be remembered for a magical postseason run that put the program back on the national map and ended with a runner-up finish at the NCAA College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. One of the last four schools in the 64-team NCAA field, Michigan won the Corvallis (Oregon) Regional and took two of three from No. 1 overall seed UCLA in the Super Regional round to get to Omaha for the first time since 1984. At the CWS, Karl Kauffmann logged two wins on the mound as the Wolverines swept their four-team, double-elimination bracket with a pair of wins over Texas Tech and one against Florida State to reach the best-of-three CWS Finals against No. 2 seed Vanderbilt. Michigan captured the opening game against the Commodores, 7-4, behind the pitching of Tommy Henry but dropped the next two, 4-1 and 8-2, to fall one win shy of joining the 1953 and 1962 U-M teams as national champions. Henry, Jack Blomgren, Jesse Franklin, Jimmy Kerr and Ako Thomas were named to the CWS all-tournament team.
