Barr Strikes Out 10, but Michigan Falls to Ohio State in Seven Innings

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team dropped its series opener against Ohio State, falling 13-2 in seven innings on Thursday night (May 14) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
The Wolverines kept the game close, trailing 4-2 after five innings, but an eight-run Buckeyes seventh put the game out of reach.
Michigan (32-20, 17-11 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the second inning as back-to-back singles from Noah Miller and Cade Ladehoff started the inning. A walk loaded the bases before Carson Luna reached on a fielder's choice that erased Miller. Greg Pace Jr. was hit by a pitch, scoring Ladehoff to put U-M ahead 1-0.
Ohio State (27-23, 16-12 Big Ten) was stifled by Kurt Barr (5-4), who allowed just one hit and one walk with six strikeouts over the first three innings. The Buckeyes got on the board in the fourth with a solo home run, but Barr struck out two more. In the fifth, OSU used two home runs to take a 4-1 lead before Barr exited after 4.2 innings and finished the day with 10 strikeouts.
Colby Turner doubled with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a Brayden Jefferis to cut the Wolverines' deficit to 4-2. OSU added one run in the sixth and eight runs in the seventh to finish the game early as the Wolverines managed just one baserunner over the final two frames.
The Wolverines will look to even the series with Ohio State at 4 p.m. on Friday at Ray Fisher Stadium. Game two will be streamed live on B1G+.
