ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (32-19, 17-10 Big Ten) hosts Ohio State (26-23, 15-12 Big Ten) in the final regular-season weekend of the year. The series begins with a Maize Out on Thursday (May 14) at 6 p.m., continues with a Blue Out on Friday (May 15) at 4 p.m. and wraps up with Senior Day on Saturday (May 16) at 1 p.m. All three games will take place at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium, and stream on B1G+.
Notes
• The Wolverines have won seven straight conference series after taking the Sunday rubber match at Minnesota and sit in sixth place in the Big Ten standings. U-M still has plenty to play for and could finish anywhere from second to seventh in the conference standings, with the top four seeds earning byes in the Big Ten Tournament.
• Minnesota took the series opener, 13-1, but Michigan responded with a ninth-inning rally on Saturday to win 9-8, sparked by a two-out double from Noah Miller, before taking the finale, 8-5, behind a career-long outing from Michael Quedens. U-M is coming off a 5-3 midweek loss at Kent State. The Wolverines have not played at home since April 26 against Washington.
• Colby Turner holds a .382/.449/.672 slash line this season, with all three marks ranking among the top 15 in the Big Ten, including second in batting average. The junior leads the Wolverines in nearly every offensive category, including total bases (137), fueled by 17 doubles and 14 home runs. Turner ranks second in the conference in total bases, while his 78 hits are tied for second.
• Kurt Barr is the only Wolverine to start every weekend series opener this season and owns a 4.17 ERA across 69 innings with 85 strikeouts. Over his four-year career, Barr has posted a 4.04 ERA with 236 strikeouts across 252 innings pitched. His career strikeout total ranks ninth in program history, one shy of eighth place and 23 away from the top five.
• Brayden Jefferis has reached base safely in 25 straight games while raising his batting average from .269 to .349 during that stretch. The sophomore ranks second on the team in batting average and third in Big Ten play at .375 across 27 conference games. Jefferis has drawn 32 free passes, including 22 walks and 10 hit-by-pitches, contributing to a .439 on-base percentage.
• Shane Brinham has started each of the last six weekend finales, with Michigan winning all six contests. The stretch began with a seven-inning complete-game shutout against ranked Oregon that earned him Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors. He has allowed one run in two starts, three runs in two others and is coming off a four-run outing at Minnesota. The freshman owns a 4.26 ERA with 46 strikeouts across 50.2 innings.
• Evan Haeger has posted back-to-back two-hit games, homering in Sunday's series finale at Minnesota and doubling in the midweek matchup at Kent State. Haeger ranks third on the team with a .300 batting average and second with a .440 on-base percentage while drawing a team-high 33 walks. The redshirt junior also ranks second on the team with six home runs.
• U-M is one of three programs nationally tied with 19 saves, ranking second in the country behind Tarleton State. The Wolverines have six different pitchers with saves this season, led by nine from Gavin DeVooght and six from Cade Montgomery. Montgomery has recorded a save in each of his last five appearances.
• Ohio State enters the weekend 26-23 overall and 15-12 in Big Ten play, sitting one spot behind Michigan in the conference standings. The Buckeyes have swept Minnesota, Maryland and Nebraska while also earning series wins over Penn State and Michigan State. OSU took the Friday and Sunday contests against the Spartans last weekend before falling to Wright State in a midweek game Tuesday.
• The Wolverines hold a 176-114-2 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to April 17, 1895. U-M has won four straight meetings, including a sweep in Columbus last season highlighted by a 23-1 victory in the opener, the largest margin of victory for either team in the nearly 300-game series. In the last meeting in Ann Arbor, Michigan won the opener, 4-0, and the finale, 7-5, while dropping the middle game.
