ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team fell 8-5 to Ohio State in the second game of the series on Saturday night (May 15) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.

Michigan (32-21, 17-12 Big Ten) entered the ninth inning down four runs, but started to rally with a one-out Matthew Ossenfort single. After a strikeout, the Wolverines drew two walks to load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate, but a groundout ended the game.

Ohio State (28-23, 17-12 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the second inning with a leadoff single before two more singles put the Buckeyes ahead 1-0. The Wolverines answered in the bottom of the inning, with Noah Miller singling to open the inning. Ossenfort doubled before a hit by pitch loaded the bases. Miller scored on a Dane Morrow fielder's choice, and Ossenfort came home on a sacrifice bunt from Drew Culbertson to take a 2-1 lead.

Neither team scored over the next two innings, but OSU homered to tie the game in the fifth. The Buckeyes added two runs in the sixth, taking a 4-2 advantage, but Brayden Jefferis blasted his third home run, a solo shot to right field, in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to one.

Ohio State tacked on three runs in the eighth inning, and the Wolverines were not able to rally as the Buckeyes went on to win.

Starter Shane Brinham (5-4) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out four over 5.1 innings. Slade Moore and Keegan O'Hearn combined for two scoreless innings to end the game.

The Wolverines will wrap up the regular season against Ohio State on Saturday (May 15) at Ray Fisher Stadium. The game is also Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on B1G+.
