ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (8-6) will open its home season after beginning the year with 14 straight road games, hosting Western Michigan (6-7) in a midweek contest Tuesday (March 10) at 4 p.m. Admission to the home opener is free, and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
Notes
• The Wolverines finished their spring break trip with a 4-3 record, winning a series against San Diego to open the trip and taking two of three games from Pepperdine to close it out. U-M suffered three walk-off losses during the stretch, falling to San Diego on Friday (Feb. 27), CSUN in a Tuesday (March 3) midweek matchup, and Pepperdine in the second game of the series.
• Dane Morrow entered the weekend series against Pepperdine with just six at-bats but tallied seven over the weekend. Morrow entered late in Thursday's (March 5) contest and went 3-for-3 with two home runs and three runs scored. The redshirt freshman then started the following game and went 1-for-4 with a walk. Morrow is 5-for-13 on the season with five runs and two RBIs.
• Jack Laffitte emerged during the spring break trip, going 4-for-10 across five games with four runs and five RBIs. The freshman had just four plate appearances entering the trip but reached base in three of those opportunities. Laffitte started at designated hitter in the finale against Pepperdine and recorded three hits, a run and two RBIs.
• Greg Pace Jr. recorded three hits in the finale against Pepperdine, matching his season high after going 3-for-3 against San Diego in the second game of that series. The redshirt junior scored six runs during the spring break trip, including three in the finale. Pace added four RBIs — all coming in the series against the Toreros. He is hitting .316 this season with a .438 on-base percentage.Â
• Brayden Jefferis began the spring break trip with five hits and left his home state with 15 on the season after recording 10 across the seven games. Jefferis posted four multi-hit games in California -- two against San Diego and two against Pepperdine. The sophomore started six of the seven contests, scoring runs in five games while adding RBIs in three. Jefferis is hitting .288 this season with 10 runs and six RBIs.
• Grant Bradley opened the Pepperdine series on the mound for his first career series start and kept the Waves scoreless over his three innings. He struck out two and allowed four baserunners over his frames. Bradley's start came five days after a three-inning save against San Diego, where the sophomore struck out five and allowed just two baserunners. He holds a 0.00 ERA this season with a 0.71 WHIP across three total outings.
• Colby Turner started the season at second base but has moved to right field and is currently slashing .322/.349/.593. His .593 slugging percentage leads the Wolverines, and he is just one of two Wolverines with multiple home runs. The junior has four on the season in addition to four doubles. Against Pepperdine, Turner recorded two hits and a run in two games.
• Western Michigan enters the matchup at 6-7 overall and is coming off a series win over Akron. The Broncos and Wolverines share one common opponent this season, as WMU won two of three games against CSUN while Michigan dropped a midweek contest to the Matadors.
• All-time, Michigan holds a 96-80-4 advantage in the series, including a 48-33-3 record at home. However, Western Michigan has won each of the last two meetings and four of the last six overall.
