ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (12-12, 1-5 Big Ten) will hit the road for a three-game conference series at Rutgers (14-10, 3-3 Big Ten) this weekend. First pitch is set for Friday (March 27) at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday (March 28) at 3 p.m., and Sunday (March 29) at 1 p.m. All three games will be played at Bainton Field and streamed on B1G+.
Notes
• The Wolverines split their midweek slate, falling 7-6 to Oakland on Tuesday (March 24) before bouncing back with a 5-2 win over Toledo on Wednesday (March 25). Michigan enters its third Big Ten series of the season after opening at UCLA and hosting Nebraska last weekend. U-M was swept by the Bruins and took the series opener against the Huskers before dropping the final two games.
• Colby Turner leads Michigan offensively, batting .358 while pacing the team in several categories. The junior collected four hits during the midweek games and remains the Wolverines' only player with double-digit extra-base hits (seven doubles, five home runs). He has totaled 17 runs and 21 RBIs on 34 hits across 23 starts while seeing time defensively at first base, second base and right field.
• Gavin DeVooght recorded his seventh save of the season against Toledo, tying for the NCAA lead and placing him among the Big Ten's top closers. He has logged seven saves in 13 appearances (21.1 innings) with 18 strikeouts, a 3.38 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. The program record for saves in a season is 12, set by Jacob Cronenworth (2014) and matched by Jackson Lamb (2017).
• Kurt Barr turned in a strong outing in the Nebraska series opener, striking out 10 over seven innings while allowing just one run on six hits without issuing a walk -- his first walk-free appearance since May 3, 2025, against Ohio State. Barr has allowed two or fewer runs in all but one start this season and leads Michigan with 37 strikeouts over 30 innings (3.60 ERA).
• Tate Carey returned to the mound last Sunday (March 22) against Nebraska after missing the last two weekends. Carey pitched two innings and allowed no runs on one hit while striking out two batters. Before his start against the Huskers, Carey pitched a quality start against San Diego, allowing no runs on five hits over six innings with seven strikeouts. On the season, the sophomore holds a 3.06 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP with 17 strikeouts in 17.2 innings.
• Josh Campbell got his second career start on Wednesday against Toledo and tallied his first career hit, an RBI single in the second inning. The freshman added two more hits on the day, with both recording RBIs on a 3-for-4 day with three total RBIs. He was strong in the field as well, recording five putouts and two diving catches. Campbell had mostly seen action as a pinch runner and has scored four runs so far this season.
• Greg Pace Jr. continued his strong stretch, recording two hits in each midweek game and scoring twice during the Nebraska series. The redshirt junior is batting .323, second among Wolverines, and has raised his average nearly 60 points during the recent six-game homestand. He has 13 runs on 21 hits with seven RBI, while leading qualified Wolverines with a .430 on-base percentage.
• Brayden Jefferis has reached base safely in 13 straight games, highlighted by a two-run double against Oakland and a career-high three RBIs. The sophomore is batting .275 with 12 runs and 12 RBIs while posting a .400 on-base percentage, good for third on the team.
• Rutgers enters the weekend at 14-10 overall and 3-3 in Big Ten play. The Scarlet Knights opened conference action by winning two of three against Michigan State before dropping the first two games at Illinois and salvaging the finale. Rutgers also earned a midweek shutout victory over Delaware.
• Michigan leads the all-time series, 16-10, though Rutgers claimed the most recent matchup in 2023. The Wolverines last won a series in 2022, while their last series victory in Piscataway came in 2018. The programs first met on May 24, 1912 - an 8-6 Michigan win.
