ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team used early and late fireworks to push past Wisconsin 2-1 on Friday (Oct. 31) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
Dylan Davis scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute, marking the first goal of his career at Michigan. Mitar Mitrovic scored his fourth goal of the season and third in as many games on a screamer in the second minute. Raymundo Mendez dished out the assist on Davis' late tally.
Michigan (11-2-3, 6-2-1 Big Ten) came out hot as Mitrovic found the ball at his feet after a deflected header and fired the ball past the keeper to put the Maize and Blue up 1-0 just over one minute into the contest.
The Wolverines continued to add pressure with four more shots in the first half, but Wisconsin (6-8-0, 3-6-0 Big Ten) found the equalizer in the 43rd minute as the teams headed to the locker room tied at one.
U-M continued its control of possession in the second stanza and repeatedly tested the Wisconsin defense with shots, but it was Davis who found the breakthrough in the 82nd minute.
Mitrovic fired a shot that caromed off the Wisconsin keeper to the feet of Mendez. He fed the ball across to Davis, who found the back of the net and crucial lead goal for Michigan.
The Wolverines held firm for the final eight minutes and ensured the 2-1 win, their 11th of the season.
Next up, Michigan will wrap up the regular season with a trip to State College, Pa., on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. to take on Penn State.
