
Wolverines to Host Rival Ohio State for Three-Game Weekend Set

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (18-20, 8-4 Big Ten) hosts Ohio State (18-15, 5-4 Big Ten) in a three-game series to start a seven-game homestand at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The series will begin on Friday (April 19) at 6 p.m., continues on Saturday (April 20) at 2 p.m. and ends Sunday (April 21) at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan is tied for third with Purdue in the conference standings and has won all four of its Big Ten series. The Wolverines won the final two games of their first three series against Penn State, Maryland and Iowa, outscoring them 55-26 in those games. In their most recent conference series against Minnesota, U-M won the first and last games of the series.
• U-M is coming off a midweek win at Toledo. Mack Timbrook delivered a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning to put Michigan ahead for good. Jacob Denner closed the door on the Rockets and picked up the win with 2.2 scoreless innings of work. Cole Caruso had two hits on the day and scored twice.
• Leading the way over the last 10 games is Timbrook, who is hitting .536 with seven starts and nine games played. He has 15 hits with seven RBI and eight runs, all coming in conference play with days of rest in the midweek games. His clutch single against Toledo followed a 7-for-12 weekend against the Gophers. He is in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak and has not committed an error over the stretch playing at second base.
• AJ Garcia has made the most of his chances since conference play began, starting every game in center field since then. Garcia has a team-leading .316 batting average and .467 on-base percentage. He has hit in the leadoff spot for the last 13 games and has 12 runs in that span with 20 runs on the season. He also has six sacrifices, all coming in the last 10 games.
• Sophomore Kurt Barr has stepped this season and leads the team in earned-run average at 3.06 and has a 4-2 record. He has started four games on the season, including two in conference play. In his most recent start, Barr pitched a complete game against Minnesota, allowing just one run while striking out four.
• Denner is leading the team so far in conference play with an ERA of 1.42 and a 0.88 WHIP through 25.1 innings, all of which rank in the top three in the conference. In his fifth season, he is moving up the program's all-time lists. Denner made his 80th career appearance against Toledo to put him fourth and trails John Arvai (86) for third place. His 46.2 innings pitched this season put him at 249, good for 10th place, and his three strikeouta Tuesday ran his career total to 237 -- tied with Jim Brauer for 10th place and 14 shy of Tommy Henry (251) in ninth.
• Mitch Voit has been a strong two-way player this season, leading the Wolverines in doubles (16), RBIs (34) while ranking third on the team in batting average (.312). On the mound, he tops the team in innings pitched (57) and strikeouts (38). His doubles total is tied for first in the Big Ten and 11th in the nation, while his five wins are tied for third in ther conference.
• Thirty-five of the 38 players on the roster have seen game action this season with 23 players recording a plate appearance and 18 players seeing action on the mound. Six players have done both this season with Voit leading the with nine pitching starts and 154 plate appearances.
• Ohio State is 18-15 overall and 5-4 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes have series wins over Purdue and Iowa. OSU has won back-to-back games, taking the series finale against Iowa and winning a midweek contest against Wright State. Michigan is 172-112-2 in the all-time series against Ohio State and 94-43-1 at home. The Wolverines were swept by the Buckeyes to end the regular season last year before heading to the Big Ten Tournament.
