ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Oakland on Tuesday night (Sept. 19) at Oakland Soccer Stadium in a non-conference contest.

Freshman Joao Paulo Ramos netted his first collegiate goal off a pass from Bryce Blevins in the second half of action, while Isaiah Goldson made four saves in net.

Michigan (1-3-3) controlled the tempo for most of the first half with its best chance coming in the 21st minute when a shot just outside the 18-yard box from Alex Waggoner was blocked. Goldson, in his second career start in goal, made two key saves in the first half and the two teams went into the halftime break scoreless.

Will Baker had the first opportunity of the second half, but his shot went just wide of the left goal post. Minutes later, the Golden Grizzlies (2-4-1) capitalized on a corner kick to take the 1-0 lead.

Michigan responded with the equalizer in the 65th minute as Blevins brought the ball into the 18-yard box, dribbled it through a defender and placed it on the foot of Ramos. Ramos fired one-touch into the far right upper corner of the goal to tie the score at 1-1.

The Wolverines had the momentum and what seemed to be the go-ahead goal with under 10 minutes to play but U-M was called offsides before Oakland scored in the 84th minute of action and took the 2-1 lead.

U-M continued to battle but was unable to find a second goal as it fell to the Golden Grizzlies on the road.

Michigan returns to U-M Soccer Stadium for the first time in three weeks for a Big Ten Conference match against on Friday (Sept. 22) at 7 p.m. The contest will be streamed live on B1G+.
