
Davis Scores Four Goals, but Michigan Falls to Ohio State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team fell to No. 22 Ohio State 12-9 on Friday (April 16) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium after returning to the field after 29 days away due to COVID-19 issues.
Freshman Caroline Davis led the Wolverines on offense with a career-best four goals, while Caitlin Muir had two goals and two assists for four points on the day. Freshman Caroline Bean also had a multi-point day with one goal and two assists.
Erin Daly paced Michigan on the draw control with four wins, and both Molly Garrett and Kaitlyn Mead added three. Defensively, Quinn Melidona had a team-high three caused turnovers and Daly had two, while Mariah Sweeney made six saves in the cage in her first career start.
The teams exchanged goals to start the first half before the Buckeyes closed out the first 30 minutes on a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 advantage into the halftime break.
Michigan got hot in the second half, scoring five straight goals -- three of which came from Davis -- to take an 8-6 lead with 15:54 remaining in the game. Ohio State responded with two goals to knot the score at 8 with just over 12 minutes to play.
Davis added her fourth goal of the game to push Michigan ahead 9-8, but it would be the final Wolverines goal, and OSU posted four unanswered gols over the final 10 minutes.
Michigan will be back in action Sunday (April 18) when it travels to Evanston, Ill., to take on No. 2 Northwestern at 11:30 a.m. CDT. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
