
Two All-Big Ten First-Teamers Highlight Six Conference Honorees

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Second baseman Mitch Voit and relief pitcher Will Rogers of the University of Michigan baseball team were named first-team All-Big Ten, while four others garnered conference recognition, it was announced Tuesday (May 20).
In addition, shortstop Benny Casillas earned an at-large spot on the second team. Voit was chosen as the second baseman on the new All-Defensive team, while starting pitcher Tate Carey and outfielder Brayden Jefferis were named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. Senior third baseman Cole Caruso was selected as Michigan's sportsmanship honoree.
Voit is U-M's only repeat selection, having also been named to the first team last season. He is hitting .347 with 69 hits and a team-leading 13 home runs. Voit also leads Michigan in RBIs, total bases and OPS. He ranks in the top ten in the Big Ten conference in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. He is the only player to start every contest this year for U-M and has a .986 fielding percentage. Voit is the first Wolverine to earn first-team honors in consecutive years since Chris Fetter in 2008 and 2009. Â
Rogers is second on the team in ERA and third in innings pitched. He holds a 4.34 ERA over 56 innings pitched with 41 strikeouts. Rogers leads Michigan with 22 appearances and has tallied eight saves this season, ranking fourth in the Big Ten Conference. He is the only qualified pitcher (one inning pitched per team game) with more than six saves.
Casillas leads the Big Ten Conference in batting average and is the only player to hit over .400. He is hitting .406 with a 1.070 OPS and 114 total bases. Casillas leads Michigan in runs scored at 52, hits with 80 and doubles with 20. He has added 38 RBIs, four home runs and six stolen bases.Â
Carey holds a 9-0 record across six starts and 17 appearances. He has a 3.35 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP with 45 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched. As a starter, Carey holds a 1.59 ERA with 36 strikeouts over 34 innings, and has held opponents to a .167 batting average against.
Jefferis has started 27 games as a freshman, appearing in 39 games. He has tallied 28 hits with 20 runs and 18 RBIs. Jefferis holds a .406 on-base percentage, which would be fourth among qualified hitters.
Caruso, a team captain, is batting .286 and has appeared in every game this season. He has tallied 11 home runs with 37 runs and 39 RBIs.
