• The Wolverines opened conference play over the weekend and won the series against Illinois, winning the Friday (March 7) and Saturday (March 8) contests. In the opener, Michigan used two big innings, scoring nine combined runs in the sixth and eighth to win, 12-7. U-M then used a ninth-inning comeback, scoring three in the final frame, sparked by a pinch-hit home run from Joe Longo. In the series finale on Sunday (March 9), U-M fell, 6-2, after the Fighting Illini scored four in the eighth inning. U-M completed its spring break trip with a 4-3 record.
• Over the last ten games, Benny Casillas has been the team's best hitter, leading the way with a .455 batting average and 15 hits. He had a career game in the series opener against Illinois, going 4-for-5 with a career-high six RBIs and scoring a run. Voit is 12th in the Big Ten in total bases with 38. Over the weekend, Voit tallied three hits and four walks with two RBIs.
• After a few pinch-hit appearances early in the season, Will Rogers got his first start in the lineup against Long Beach State and went 3-for-4 with a double and a run. He started the next four games as a designated hitter -- and tallied five hits, six runs and two RBIs -- including a home run against UCLA. His home runs are tied for second on the team -- and his RBIs are second trailing only Voit.
