
Tamer Named to USA Field Hockey Pan American Roster

SANTIAGO, Chile -- University of Michigan junior Abby Tamer, already a member of USA Field Hockey's Women's National Team, has been added to the U.S. Pan American Games (PAG) roster, announced by USAFH today (Monday, Sept. 18).
Tamer, who is redshirting the 2023 collegiate season while training with Team USA, is a part of a 16-athlete roster that will travel to Santiago, Chile, from Oct. 25-Nov. 4. The winner of the women's 2023 Pan American Games earns a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, while the other three semifinalists will be placed in a FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier in January.
Team USA sits in Pool A and will open competition against Trinidad and Tobago, who the U.S. last competed against at the 2022 Pan American Cup, defeating them 16-0. USA will also face Argentina and Uruguay in pool competition. Crossover and semifinal play is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 2, while the finals and placement matches are Saturday, Nov. 4.
Tamer previously competed with Team USA at the 2023 Junior Pan American Championships, 2022 Junior World Cup and the 2021 Junior Pan American Championship, where she was awarded the tournament's Most Valuable Player award in the former event. She was elevated to the U.S. Women's Senior National Team last March and earned both her first international cap and international goal while playing with the Red, White and Blue during FIH Pro League play in June.
She has appeared in 39 games in two seasons at Michigan, starting 28 at forward and midfield. She owns 13 career goals and nine assists, ranking among the team leaders with nine goals last fall, and was named to the NFHCA All-West Region second team in 2022.
