
Burns, Smith Garner ILWomen All-America Third Team Honors

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Junior Maddie Burns and sophomore Jill Smith of the University of Michigan women's lacrosse team notched Inside Lacrosse Women All-America third team honors as announced Thursday (May 18).
Smith has led the Wolverine attack all season, breaking the U-M single-season points (77) and goals (65) records, while ranking third on the Wolverines with 46 draw-control wins. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native produced 16 multi-goal games with 14 of them hat tricks. Smith became just the fourth Michigan player to be named a Tewaaraton Nominee, was a first team All-Big Ten selection, an IWLCA All-Region honoree and named USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America honorable mention.
Burns has anchored the backline in all 20 games this season as she leads U-M with 23 caused turnovers and 34 ground balls, while also winning 49 draw controls to rank second for the Wolverines. She also was named first team All-Big Ten, IWLCA All-Region second team and was a midseason All-America honorable mention selection as well as a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America honorable mention honoree.
