
Four Wolverines Earn IWLCA Academic Honors, Team an Academic Honors Squad

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- Four University of Michigan women's lacrosse players -- senior Erin Garvey and juniors Caitlyn Camelio, Sophia DeNicola and Mariana Lopez-Ona -- were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division I Academic Honor Roll, while the team was named to the Academic Honor Squad it was announced Wednesday (July 27).
Garvey, a sport management major, appeared in 16 games and made 13 starts in 2022 while ranking fifth on the team with 25 points (22 goals, three assists). The midfielder also had 22 draw-control wins and 10 caused turnovers. She served as a team captain last season and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the third time in her career.
Camelio, an economics major, saw action in six games as a reserve, picking up six ground balls and causing four turnovers. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the second time in her career in 2022.
DeNicola, a political science major, appeared in three games as a reserve and took two shots. She was named Academic All-Big Ten for the second time in her career.
Lopez-Ona, a business administration major in the Ross School of Business, played in three games off the bench and was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
To be eligible for Academic Honor Roll honors, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or greater, while the team earned a 3.2 or higher GPA for the academic year to earn Academic Honor Squad honors.
