
Garvey, Whitaker Named 2023 Women's Lacrosse Captains

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Graduate students Erin Garvey and Morgan Whitaker were named University of Michigan women's lacrosse team captains for the 2023 season as announced Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Garvey and Whitaker will lead the team for the second straight season as they served in the role along with Kaitlyn Mead, Caitlin Muir and Arielle Weissman last season.
Garvey enters her fifth year after appearing in 16 games with 13 starts in the 2022 campaign. The West Chester, Pa., native ranked fifth for the Michigan offense with 25 points, which included 22 goals. Garvey tallied 10 appearances with two points or more and had a season-best three points on three separate occasions. In the midfield, Garvey ranked fifth on the team with 22 draw control wins and had 10 caused turnovers which tied for fourth on the team.
Whitaker helped pace the Michigan defense last season, which ranked as high as third nationally in scoring defense. The Glen Allen, Va., native started all 18 games for the Wolverines in 2022 while leading U-M with 19 caused turnovers and adding 33 ground balls, which ranked second overall.
