
Wolverines Quartet Earns All-Big Ten Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team had four Wolverines earn All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced Thursday (April 29).
Graduate student Molly Garrett earned her second Big Ten honor as the only Wolverine on the first-team list, while Caitlin Muir notched her second Big Ten honor being named to the second team along with graduate senior Quinn Melidona. Junior Kaitlyn Mead earned an at large nod to the All-Big Ten second team.
Garrett has started all 11 games this season and ranks second with 34 points, 31 of which have been goals. The graduate student also ranks second in draw-control wins with 27 and adds 11 ground balls and caused turnovers. Finally, Garrett has a .704 shots-on-goal percentage and has scored eight free-position goals this season. Garrett notched two games with six goals or more, scoring seven at Penn State and adding six at No. 2 Northwestern.
Muir leads Michigan with 41 points, which includes 19 goals and 22 assists. The senior attacker has put 42 of her 53 shots on goal for a .792 shots-on-goal percentage this season and has nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Muir has notched seven games with two or more assists, including tallying five assists and two goals against Rutgers for seven points.
Melidona paced the U-M defense as she was put on the top offensive opponent in all 11 games this season. The graduate senior tied a team high 11 caused turnovers and had 14 ground balls, which ranked second for Michigan.
Mead appeared in and started 10 of U-M's 11 games, scoring 13 goals and adding five assists for 18 points. The junior midfielder had a team-best 31 draw control wins including starting the season with three straight games of five or more draw-control victories. Mead tallied two hat tricks this season and had four points with three goals, one assist and five draw control wins at Maryland.
The Wolverines will start postseason play today (April 29) as they take on No. 2 seed Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament at 5 p.m. in State College, Pa, on the campus of Penn State.
