ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team will open the 2022 campaign in another premier tournament at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Feb. 18-20.
The Wolverines are set to join six other programs in the three-game weekend and will be the only representative from the Eastern time zone.
Tickets for the tournament will go on sale in January. All three U-M games will be streamed live by FloSports.
The inaugural 2020 Showdown event garnered more than 48,000 fans over three days despite the global COVID-19 pandemic and poor weather conditions.
Michigan will open its season in primetime in a highly anticipated matchup with Texas Tech on Friday (Feb. 18) at 7 p.m. CT. The season-opener marks a rematch of two College World Series games in 2019 when Michigan single-handedly sent the Red Raiders home with two convincing victories. Texas Tech posted a 39-17 record in 2021 and fell to Stanford in the Super Regional.
Michigan was assigned a quick turnaround in its next game as the Wolverines play Kansas State the following day (Feb. 19) at 11 a.m. CT. The Wolverines are set to finish the weekend on Sunday (Feb. 20) with a 6:30 p.m. CT game against Oklahoma.
The two teams competing in the tournament that U-M is not playing against are Auburn and Arizona.
The remainder of Michigan's 2022 season will be announced soon. Michigan finished the 2021 season with another NCAA Tournament appearance following a season in which the Wolverines were nationally ranked for much of the year despite a condensed schedule impacted by COVID-19 pandemic. Michigan won 27 games during the 2021 campaign and had three players selected in the MLB Amateur Draft.
Globe Life Field opened in March 2020 and is the home of the Texas Rangers. Designed with a retractable roof to be a premier multipurpose sports and entertainment venue, Globe Life Field has a baseball capacity of 40,518.
