ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Coming off the best season in the history of the University of Michigan women's lacrosse program, head coach Hannah Nielsen announced Thursday (Dec. 5) the team's 2020 schedule. The slate is highlighted by eight home games at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Michigan enters its seventh season as a varsity program and Nielsen has put together a tough 2020 schedule, and it will take on eight teams that reached the 2019 NCAA Tournament, including Big Ten Conference foe and defending national champion Maryland. U-M also will meet up with Denver, Jacksonville and USC, all who were part of the 2019 Ann Arbor region of the NCAA Tournament.
"I am excited about the schedule we have put together for our 2020 campaign," said Nielsen. "Naturally, the Big Ten provides the best competition in the country, which we are always excited about. In our non-conference play, we have scheduled high quality opponents with a number of different playing styles to ensure we are ready going into the conference season. Having seven opponents in the top 20 will ensure we are challenged throughout the year, and will hopefully set us up to compete in the postseason nationally."
The Wolverines will start the 2020 season with a three-game road stint, including a trip to Notre Dame on Jan. 26 for an exhibition contest. U-M will then start the 2020 regular season at Jacksonville for an NCAA Tournament rematch on Feb. 9 before closing out the trip on the west coast with a game against USC on Feb. 15.
U-M opens its home schedule with three straight games at U-M Lacrosse Stadium against Louisville (Feb. 21), Colorado (Feb. 23) and Albany (Feb. 29).
Michigan next hits the road for two contests to kick off the month of March before returning to Ann Arbor to take on Denver on March 15. The Wolverines open Big Ten play on the road against Rutgers Thursday, March 20 and return home for a non-conference contest against San Diego State on Sunday, March 22.
Nielsen's squad will play four straight Big Ten contests, hosting Ohio state (March 27) and Northwestern (April 9), while traveling to Penn State (April 2) and Johns Hopkins (April 18).
The Wolverines will play one final non-conference game Monday, April 20 at Central Michigan before concluding the regular season schedule Sunday, April 25 with a 1 p.m. contest against Maryland at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
U-M seeks a second straight Big Ten Tournament appearance May 1-3 in Columbus, Ohio, and a repeat run in the NCAA Tournament, which will begin on May 8.
Individual and group tickets for 2020 home games are on sale. General admission tickets are $6 and $3 for groups of 10 or more. For more information, visit the women's lacrosse tickets page.
