ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's lacrosse head coach Hannah Nielsen announced today (Wednesday, Aug. 16) the hiring of Maeve McKew as the program's director of operations.
"I am very excited to welcome Maeve to the staff," said Nielsen.
"Her experience in working in college athletics, and specifically in college lacrosse will be a huge asset to our program. She will be an essential part of the future success of Michigan Lacrosse and I am excited to have her as a part of the team."
McKew brings valuable lacrosse knowledge to Ann Arbor from her experience as a collegiate player, assistant coach and director of operations.
"I'm honored to be working at such a distinguished institution as the University of Michigan, and thank Hannah for the opportunity to work with such a great lacrosse staff," said McKew.
"This program is destined for great things and I look forward to being a part of the success."
McKew graduated with a degree in family science from Maryland in 2009, where she was a member of the women's lacrosse team (2005-09). She helped the Terrapins compile a 70-15 record in her four years, en route to four NCAA Tournament appearances. As a senior, McKew led the team to an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championship and a berth in the NCAA Final Four.
After graduating from Maryland, McKew earned her Master of Education at Drexel University, where she also served as the assistant lacrosse coach from 2010-11. Following her role as assistant coach, McKew transitioned back to her alma mater, Maryland, to become the director of operations for women's lacrosse.
McKew then put her undergraduate and graduate degrees to use, teaching first grade in Baltimore County public schools for five years.
As Michigan's director of operations, McKew will be responsible for all day-to-day office operations, which include overseeing all aspects of the budget, team travel and home game logistics. She will also supervise team managers, coordinate on-campus recruiting visits and events and manage camp operations for the Wolverines. In addition, she will serve as the liaison between the women's lacrosse program and other departments within Michigan Athletics.
