
U-M Student-Athlete Spotlight: Madison Richardson

Following the signing of U-M's third recruiting class, all nine members are being featured in a student-athlete spotlight, breaking down each future Wolverine, on and off the field.
Madison Richardson is a two-time varsity letterwinner (2013, '14) and will play her final season at Woodward Academy (College Park, Georgia) this spring.
The right-handed midfielder was awarded Team MVP and All-State honors as a junior in 2014.
As a sophomore, Richardson played defense and was named the Woodward's Defensive MVP and earned All-Region honors.
An avid basketball and softball player, Richardson did not start playing lacrosse until her sophomore year of high school.
Richardson competed for the Milton Eagle Stix club team. In addition to her accomplishments on the lacrosse field, Richardson was also a four-year member of the varsity softball and basketball teams at Woodward. Her academic accomplishments at Woodward include receiving the Sylver Eagle Award and being on the Honor Roll her sophomore and junior years.
Collegiate athletics run in the Richardson family as her father played football at Michigan under Bo Schembechler and her sister, Darington Richardson, is currently a junior outfielder for the University of Kentucky softball team.

What attracted you to the University of Michigan?
"The academics, the amount of choices that are available to me, and the fact that my dad played at Michigan for Bo (Schembechler) makes it exciting to be a part of the Michigan experience. I can't wait."
What are your thoughts about continuing to help Michigan builds its women's lacrosse program?
"I am excited that Coach U thought that I was good enough to be a member of the Michigan team. I am looking forward to helping win a championship."
What do you like about Michigan/Ann Arbor from what you have seen so far?
"I like everything. The campus is beautiful, the people are nice, and the athletic programs are amazing."
What is your favorite lacrosse moment of all time?
"Playing in the Presidents Cup and having my coach tell me that the Michigan coach was interested."
How did you first get involved in Lacrosse?
"I got involved my sophomore year. After basketball season was over, the lacrosse coach approached me and asked me to try out for the team. I said 'sure, why not'."
Do you have any talents that you are willing to share? If so, explain.
"I am pretty much an athlete. I play softball, I play basketball, I swim and I play tennis. As long as I can figure out the rules, I will do it. I love being active."
Who is your role model?
"My role model is my mom. She completes my family. She does everything for us and she is a very hard working woman."
What do you enjoy doing when you are not playing lacrosse?
"I like being with my family. I love to watch my sister play softball at the University of Kentucky, and I love to watch my brother play football. He is a high school junior now. I also love dancing, hanging out with my friends and competing."
