ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals -- from freshman Yamann Sahlool (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) junior TJ VanSlooten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids) -- to earn its first-ever home victory over the defending NCAA champion Indiana Hoosiers by a 2-1 scoreline Saturday (Oct. 26) at U-M Soccer Stadium.

Fabio Pereira
The Hoosiers got on the board first with less than three minutes left in the opening stanza, as defender Patrick Doody sent a looping service from nearly 35 yards out. The cross found the head of Andrew Oliver just inside the 18, and the service was headed home to give IU the 1-0 lead heading into the half.
At the intermission, U-M led in shots, 7-4, and the Wolverines were rewarded for their efforts in the 70th minute with an equalizer as senior Fabio Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/South Kent School [Conn.]) sent a sublime service from the right touchline inside the six. Sahlool dodged his way past his defender and headed home the service for his second goal of the season to knot the match.
The Maize and Blue continued to dictate the flow of the match for the next 15 minutes as the side did much of the second half (12-2 on shots). It was freshman Rylee Woods (Jamestown, Ohio/Greeneview) who completed a run down the left flank with an out-swinging service inside the area that rattled around until it found the foot of freshman Lars Eckenrode (Springfield, Va./West Springfield). The centerback took a touch and found VanSlooten, who sent the shot home from close range for his second match-winner of the campaign.
Freshman goalkeeper Grant Mattia (Macomb, Mich./De la Salle Collegiate) came on in the second half in relief of an injured Adam Grinwis (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills) and made two saves in his collegiate debut.
U-M returns to action for its fourth straight home match Wednesday (Oct. 30), as the Wolverines look to avenge its 2012 NCAA Tournament defeat against the Akron Zips, who are currently ranked No. 18, from U-M Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
