The homer provided Stephens with his first career game-winning run batted in as a Wolverine.
Stephens, who has four of his five career multi-hit games this season, has two of his four career homers in the 10th inning in games in Indiana with a grand slam to cap off a 16-10 win at IU in 2010 and Sunday's 'gamer' at Purdue.
Freshman RHP/DH Alex Lakatos (2-1, 4.98 earned-run average, one save) pitched 3.2 shutout innings, allowing three hits to earn his team-leading second win of the season. The Michigan defense turned three double plays behind Lakatos, closing out the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
Lakatos, who started Sunday's game in leftfield and is hitting .291 (16-for-55), was 0-for-5 with a run scored as his career-best hitting streak was snapped at six games.
Sophomore CF Patrick Biondi, who is hitting .298 (36-for-121), was 3-for-4 with two walks and two stolen bases as he reached base five times. He was 7-for-13 (.538) for the weekend at Purdue with a pair of three-hit games, five stolen bases as he reached base 11 times.
Biondi led off the first inning Sunday with a single and he scored on a single by Michael O'Neill. Biondi has scored in the first inning as the leadoff batter five times this season, four times in Big Ten play and 26 times in his U-M career.
Biondi's three-hit game Sunday is his third of the season and 10th of his U-M career. He leads the team with 11 multi-hit games this season with 32 career multi-hit games.
Biondi, who leads the team with 16 stolen bases, has 45 career steals, which rank in a tie with Bill St. Peter (45 stolen bases, 1986-88) for sixth on U-M's all-time list. With his 45 career stolen bases, including 29 in 2010, Biondi tied and then moved ahead of the three-way log jam for eighth on U-M's career steals list that includes current Major Leaguer Chris Getz (44, 2004-05), former Major League MVP Barry Larkin (44, 1983-85) and All-American OF Mike Watters (44, 1983-85).
Freshman RF Michael O'Neill, who is hitting .304 (35-for-115), was 1-for-4 with a walk and his team-leading 14th RBI. O'Neill has hits in 25 of his 29 games this season.
Junior/sophomore 2B/OF Kevin Krantz, who is hitting .217 (18-for-83), was 2-for-5 with a two-out, two-run double in the four-run eighth-inning rally. Krantz has six doubles and 12 runs batted in while usually hitting eighth or ninth in the U-M lineup. Krantz has four multi-hit games this season and five career multi-hit games as a Wolverine.
