CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team concluded play in the 2010 ACC/Big Ten Challenge with a 5-1 loss to No. 6 Wake Forest on Sunday (Aug. 29) at the Francis E. Henry Field. Michigan tied the game at one in the 42nd minute, but Wake Forest scored four unanswered second-half goals to pick up the win.

Vanessa Sekhon
The Wolverines were the aggressor to begin the game, attempting the first nine shots of the contest, but Wake Forest scored the only goal of the first 35 minutes. Michigan had a 13-3 shot advantage in the first period and attempted six penalty corners to the Demon Deacons' one.
Michigan came out in the second half and scored on its first shot attempt of the period. Senior Vanessa Sekhon (West Vancouver, B.C./Collingwood) took a pass from redshirt senior Paige Laytos (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and deflected it past Wake Forest goalkeeper Kaitlyn Ruhf for the Maize and Blue's first goal of the 2010 campaign. It is Sekhon's seventh career goal as a Wolverine.
Wake Forest answered 1:06 later when Jillian Anzalone scored the game-winner on a direct penalty corner from the sticks of Lauren Greenwald and Faith Adams. That was the first of four straight goals for the Demon Deacons, which included two straight goals from Taylor Rhea in the final 6:45 of the game.
Michigan ended the contest with a 17-15 shot and an 8-5 penalty-corner advantage. Senior Meredith Way (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and freshman Rachael Mack (Bromsgrove, England/Bromsgrove School) led the Maize and Blue with four shots apiece.
Michigan will continue its four-game road trip to open the 2010 season on Thursday (Sept. 2) at Maine. Game time is at 3 p.m.
