PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan field hockey junior midfielder/back Meredith Way (Newmanstown, Pa./Lititz) was named the Big Ten Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 5). Way had a three-goal weekend for the Wolverines, who upset No. 17 Northwestern, 3-1, on Oct. 2 and blanked Saint Louis, 7-0, on Oct. 3. This marks the first Big Ten weekly honor for Way.
Way has been on a tear of late for the Maize and Blue, scoring eight of her team-best 10 goals over the last seven games. She is currently enjoying a five-game goal streak.
On Friday (Oct. 2), Way netted the first of three unanswered goals as the Wolverines came from behind to earn the victory against Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. She followed with a two-goal performance, her second two-goal game of the season, against St. Louis in a 7-0 Michigan victory on Saturday (Oct. 3).
Michigan's last Offensive Player of the Week was Lucia Belassi on Sept. 17, 2007.
Michigan ventures to Cambridge, Mass., next weekend for a road game against Harvard on Saturday (Oct. 10), followed by a neutral-site contest versus New Hampshire on Sunday (Oct. 11).
