PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Four members of the University of Michigan men's soccer players received awards from the Big Ten Conference Thursday (Nov. 8) when the league announced its All-Conference and individual awards. Junior midfielder Jake Stacy(Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) was named to the All-Big Ten Big first team. Sophomore forward Peri Marosevic(Rockford, Ill./Edison Academy) and junior defender co-captain Michael Holody(Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) were each named to the second team, while senior forward and co-captain Michael Parke(Portage, Mich./Portage Central) earned Michigan's Sportsmanship award.
Stacy was the U-M team leader in assists with 10 for the season. He was chosen as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice in September -- the first time a men's soccer player has won the award in consecutive weeks. Stacy was named to the Michigan Invitational All-Tournament team. In Michigan's victory over No. 17 Akron on Oct. 24, the midfielder kicked the winning goal in overtime. The last Wolverines to earn All-Big Ten first team selections were Knox Cameron (2001-04), Kevin Taylor (2000-03), Mike White (2000-03) and Peter Dzubay (2002-05) in 2003.
Holody had an impressive season in the defensive backfield. He was an integral piece of the team's single-season record eight shutouts. Additionally, Holody tallied four goals during the season -- the most by a Michigan defender -- and collected two assists on the season. Holody was named to the All-Tournament teams for both the Cal State Fullerton and Michigan Invitational Tournaments. He was selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman team in 2005.
Marosevic led the Maize and Blue with six scores in 2007 and received a nod to the Cal State Fullerton All-Tournament team. The forward also notched two assists during the season and had a team-high 41 shots and 23 shots on goal. Marosevic was recently named to the Academic All-District IV First Team by CoSIDA. This is his second All-Big Ten Second Team award, earning his first as a freshman in 2006. He was also named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team last year.
Prior to Parke's injury, he played in seven games and earned two assists. The senior co-captain made his presence known on the sideline, supporting his team throughout the 2007 campaign. He is now a candidate for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the conference office will honor one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the school year.
Michigan will await selection to the 2007 NCAA Tournament, which will be announced Monday, Nov. 19. Stay tuned to MGoBlue.com for updates on the Wolverines' postseason plans.
