Hortillosa propelled Michigan to a crucial Big Ten road victory last Thursday (Oct. 4), scoring her fourth game-winning goal of the season with seven seconds remaining in overtime at No. 7 Michigan State. The 2-1 win kept the Wolverines undefeated in conference play and extended U-M's season-high winning streak to six games. Hortillosa, who ended a two-game scoring drought in the contest, is tied for the team lead in scoring with eight goals and one assist for 17 points.
Hortillosa's award is the third Big Ten Player of the Week honor for the Wolverines this season. Sophomore defender Stephanie Johnson (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School) has claimed the defensive laurel on two occasions.
Michigan (10-2, 3-0 Big Ten), ranked third in the latest STX/NFHCA National Division I Coaches Poll, continues Big Ten play at 3 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 12), traveling to No. 10 Ohio State. Following the contest against the Buckeyes, the Wolverines will travel to Athens, Ohio, on Sunday (Oct. 14) to face No. 11 Ohio in a non-conference affair. The Wolverines have won 10 of their last 11 games, including seven straight.
