ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team battled No. 25-ranked Notre Dame to a 1-1 draw Thursday night (Aug. 27) at U-M Soccer Stadium, using a second-half penalty kick from Adi Walick to erase a one-goal halftime deficit.

Michigan (0-0-3) fell behind in the 24th minute and entered halftime trailing 1-0. The Wolverines generated three shots in the opening 45 minutes before increasing the pressure after the break.

U-M got off to an aggressive start in the second half. Elle Ervin created a save in the 54th minute while Ella Jablinskey threatened with another shot in the 56th minute.

The Wolverines' pressure paid off at 55:45 when a red card was issued to Notre Dame (1-0-4), and Michigan was awarded a penalty kick. Walick converted from the spot for her second penalty conversion of the season, leveling the match at 1-1.

Playing with a player advantage, the Maize and Blue continued to push for the go-ahead goal. Natelle El Mokbel, Campbell Jewell, Walick and Jablinskey each put attempts on goal during a strong closing stretch for the Wolverines.

Michigan finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots, including a 10-4 edge in the second half, and put nine attempts on goal.

Goalkeeper Malia Zillman made two saves before the sides returned to even strength in the final minute when she was shown a red card at 89:24. Brooklyn Reid entered in goal for the final 36 seconds, and Michigan saw out the remaining time to secure the 1-1 draw.

The Maize and Blue will hit the road for a Sunday (Aug. 30) contest against Bowling Green at Cochrane Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m., and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
