U-M Earns First Win of DiIanni Era at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Bowling Green on Sunday (Aug. 30) at Cochrane Stadium. The victory also marked the first for head coach Dave DiIanni at the helm of the Wolverines.
Junior Elle Ervin provided the game-winner for Michigan (1-0-3), scoring the lone goal of the match in the 22nd minute. Off a corner kick from Adi Walick, Ervin connected on a header and found the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage.
Natelle El Mokbel led the Maize and Blue with three shot attempts and nearly added to the lead, but her chance under pressure from the Bowling Green (2-1-1) defense sailed high.
The Falcons increased the pressure in the second half, particularly around the 60-minute mark, but Michigan's back line and Brooklyn Reid remained composed to keep BGSU off the scoreboard.
U-M generated another scoring opportunity in the 75th minute when Ella Jablinskey found Beanie Harshe with space near the top of the box. Harshe's shot went just over the crossbar, keeping the Wolverines' advantage at one.
Michigan's defense held firm through the final whistle to secure the 1-0 victory. Making her first collegiate start in goal, Reid played all 90 minutes and made three saves, all in the second half, to earn the first shutout of her career.
The Maize and Blue return home to U-M Soccer Stadium on Thursday (Sept. 3) for Senior Day. Michigan will take on Georgia Southern at 7 p.m., with the match streaming live on B1G+.
