ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Maryland on Thursday (Oct. 22) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Michigan (7-4-4, 5-4-1 Big Ten) broke through in the 63rd minute when Melisa Kekic scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Lilley Bosley. With the assist, Bosley extended her streak to five consecutive games with at least one point.
Maryland (4-9-3, 1-7-2 Big Ten) responded in the 67th minute, finding the equalizer just over three minutes later. Despite Michigan's continued offensive pressure, neither team managed to score again.
The Wolverines controlled much of the offensive play, finishing with a 22-7 advantage in total shots and an 11-2 edge in shots on goal.
Kekic's goal came just over a minute after Maryland made a goalkeeper change. Terrapins starter Faith Luckey recorded nine saves through 62 minutes to keep the Wolverines off the scoreboard before Kekic broke through.
The Maize and Blue generated 11 shots in the opening half, including four from Ella Jablinskey and two from Luciana Latino, but Maryland's defense held firm until Kekic's second-half breakthrough.
In goal, Malia Zillman played all 90 minutes for U-M and recorded one save.
Michigan returns home Sunday (Oct. 25) to host Penn State at 1 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
