
Second-Half Rally Falls Short for Michigan at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 21-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team scored five second-half goals but could not overcome an early four-goal deficit, falling 6-5 to Purdue on Thursday (Oct. 8) at Folk Field.
Ella Jablinskey and Lilley Bosley led the Maize and Blue with two goals apiece, while Elle Ervin added a penalty-kick goal. Luciana Latino recorded two assists in the comeback effort.
Purdue (11-1-2, 5-1-1 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the 12th minute and doubled its lead less than six minutes later. The Boilermakers extended their advantage to 3-0 in the 30th minute before adding another goal in the 43rd minute to send Michigan (5-4-3, 3-4-0 Big Ten) into halftime trailing 4-0.
The Wolverines came out firing in the second half, scoring twice in a span of 49 seconds. Bosley put U-M on the board in the 52nd minute off an assist from Latino before Ervin converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to cut the deficit in half.
Michigan continued to push forward, pulling within one in the 66th minute when Jablinskey found the back of the net off Latino's second assist of the night.
Purdue responded with a goal in the 73rd minute to extend its lead to 5-3, but Jablinskey answered with her second goal of the match in the 76th minute to bring the Maize and Blue back within one.
The Boilermakers converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to regain a two-goal advantage. Just 14 seconds later, Bosley netted her second goal of the night to make it 6-5. Michigan continued to push for the equalizer, earning two late corner kicks but saw a shot on goal from Latino turned away in the 90th minute.
Michigan finished with 14 shots, including eight on goal, while Purdue recorded 17 shots with nine on target. The Wolverines outscored the Boilermakers 5-2 in the second half and earned four of their five corner kicks after halftime.
