
Michigan Outshoots No. 18 Washington in Narrow Loss

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team held the advantage in shots but was unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to No. 18 Washington on Thursday (Sept. 24) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
Michigan (4-2-3, 2-2-0 Big Ten) outshot Washington (8-0-2, 3-0-1 Big Ten) 11-5 and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. The Wolverines put three shots on goal, while goalkeeper Malia Zillman made two saves.
After Washington generated the first three shots of the contest, U-M began to create opportunities late in the opening half. Ella Jablinskey recorded the Wolverines' first attempt in the 27th minute before Adi Walick and Beanie Harshe each forced saves. Walick came inches from giving U-M the lead just before halftime when her shot struck the right post, sending the teams into the break tied 0-0.
The Maize and Blue carried its attacking pressure into the second half, with Elle Ervin putting a shot on goal in the 52nd minute. Washington broke the scoreless tie in the 59th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Wolverines responded with six shots over the remainder of the match. Ervin added two more attempts, while Jablinskey, Harshe, Luciana Latino and Natelle El Mokbel also had chances as Michigan searched for an equalizer. U-M earned four of its six corner kicks in the second half but could not convert before the final whistle.
Ervin led Michigan with three shots, while Harshe, Jablinskey and Walick each finished with two.
