DALLAS, Texas -- Colby Turner of the University of Michigan baseball team was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America third team, the organization announced Wednesday (June 10). With his selection, Turner becomes just the fourth Wolverine named to any NCBWA team.
Turner already earned All-Big Ten first-team honors and American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region honors this season and now becomes the first Wolverine to be an NCAA-recognized All-American since 2019. The junior second baseman slashed an impressive .366/.432/.625 while adding 14 home runs and 12 stolen bases. Turner led the Wolverines in batting average, slugging percentage, runs and RBI among other categories. He scored 57 runs on 85 hits while bringing home 55. Turner tallied 25 multi-hit games, and his 24-game hit streak was the longest in program history since 2000. Turner saw action at four different positions throughout the season, but settled in at second base by the end and held a .957 fielding percentage, turning 20 double plays.
He is the first Wolverine since Jordan Brewer in 2019 to earn an All-America nod from one of the four NCAA-recognized organizations. Turner joins Zach Putnam, who was the only other Wolverine to earn NCBWA third-team honors, doing so in 2007. Putnam also earned NCBWA second-team honors in 2008, while Carmen Benedetti earned first-team honors in 2015.
