Michigan (20-14, 7-7 Big Ten) threatened early, leaving the bases loaded in the first and stranding a runner on second in the second inning before breaking through in the third. U-M scored five runs in the frame, starting with Colby Turner's second single of the day. After a strikeout, Noah Miller and Brayden Jefferis delivered back-to-back singles, with Jefferis driving in Turner to tie the game.
Brenden Stressler followed with a double, and Greg Pace Jr. launched a three-run home run to give Michigan a 5-1 lead. Matthew Ossenfort singled later in the inning but was thrown out at home to end the frame.
Michigan State (11-21, 6-11 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the second inning using a single and an error. Shane Brinham settled in after that, working scoreless third and fourth innings, including a 1-2-3 fourth.

The Wolverines were limited offensively over the middle innings, recording just a hit by pitch in the fifth and sixth before a double from Ossenfort in the seventh and a single from Jack Laffitte in the eighth.
The Spartans chipped away, scoring in the sixth on a single and an error and adding another run in the seventh on two doubles. Cade Montgomery entered with two outs in the seventh and induced a flyout to strand a runner.
