
Michigan Edged by Lehigh in One-Goal Battle

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 18 University of Michigan men's lacrosse team took its first loss of the 2026 season as it fell to Lehigh, 14-13, Saturday (Feb. 14) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Michigan (3-1) battled back from a 5-0 deficit to start the game before taking the lead on three occasions and forcing a tied game six times; however, the Mountain Hawks (2-1) were able to come away with the one-goal victory.
Luke Shannehan and Nick Roode led the Wolverines offensively as both recorded a pair of hat tricks and an assist each, while John Morgan and Matt Han added two goals each, and Han had an assist for three points.
Defensively, Will Tominovich had three caused turnovers and six ground balls, while Ryan Lyngklip had two ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior goalie Hunter Taylor made 12 saves in the cage for his third-straight double-digit saves effort of the season.
Lehigh lit up the scoreboard less than one minute into the game and controlled the entire first quarter as it scored five goals on 10 shots.
Following the quarter break, Michigan immediately scored its first goal as Alex Lobel fed Roode to bring Michigan within four, 5-1, early in the second quarter of action. The Mountain Hawks added a sixth to their tally before Morgan netted a goal on a diving shot down the left side of the field and Shannehan pulled Michigan within two, 6-4, with a rip from up top.
Lehigh added a seventh goal with 1:22 left in the half; however, Michigan won the ensuing faceoff that allowed Eliot Dubick to score off a pass from Han and give the Wolverines momentum heading into the halftime break.
The Wolverines outscored Lehigh, 5-2, in the third quarter using two goals from Morgan and Han in the closing five minutes of the quarter to take a 10-9 lead with 15 minutes to play.
The final quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two squads with four ties and four lead changes before Lehigh closed the game out with back-to-back goals to secure the win.
U-M will hit the road Saturday (Feb. 21) when it takes on No. 11 Army at noon in Atlanta, Ga.
