
U-M Celebrates Senior Day with Win Over Rutgers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team defeated No. 13-ranked Rutgers, 13-10, in its final home game of the season on Sunday (April 5) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
U-M controlled much of the contest, winning 17 of 26 faceoffs and recording 27 shots on goal compared to Rutgers' 18. Nick Roode and Luke Shannehan each recorded hat tricks in the conference victory, while Adam Udell led the Wolverines with three assists.
Rutgers (8-4, 1-2 Big Ten) opened with the first three goals of the game in the opening five minutes. Udell ended the run, and the teams traded goals for the remainder of the quarter as Michigan (4-7, 1-2 Big Ten) cut the deficit to 4-2 at the end of the first.
Michigan surged in the second quarter as Roode scored twice to complete his hat trick, with Udell assisting on both goals to bring the Wolverines within one, 6-5. Rutgers answered with a goal in the final minute to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.
The Wolverines came out strong in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals with four different players finding the back of the net to take a 9-7 lead. Jackie Weller netted the equalizer, while Shannehan added his first goal of the afternoon during the run.
U-M maintained control in the quarter, winning four of five faceoffs and limiting Rutgers to just three shots on goal, carrying the 9-7 advantage into the final period.
Rutgers tied the game early in the fourth quarter, but Alex Gatto and Shannehan responded with three goals in a two-minute span to restore a 12-9 lead.
After a Rutgers goal cut into the deficit, the Wolverines held firm defensively. Josh Ford sealed the victory with a goal in the final minute to secure the 13-10 win.
Michigan will travel to State College, Pa., to face Penn State on Saturday (April 11). The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
