The game saw five ties and three lead changes with Michigan (5-8, 3-2 Big Ten) leading through the first half. Ohio State (10-3, 3-2 Big Ten) took its first lead in the second half and scored the game-winner with three seconds left on the clock.

Michigan came out of the gate quickly when Shannehan fired a shot from deep off a pass from Eliot Dubick, and Bo Lockwood followed up with a shot over the shoulder of the OSU goalie less than three minutes to give U-M a 2-0 lead. After assisting on the Lockwood goal, Udell scored one of his own as he ran downhill to extend the Wolverine lead to 3-0 with 6:33 left to play in the first quarter. The Buckeyes scored their first of the quarter less than a minute later, as scoring slowed for Michigan for the next four minutes.
Tominovich forced a turnover with 38 seconds left on the clock, and Michigan quickly moved the ball upfield for Shannehan to grip it and rip it with 12 seconds remaining, and U-M carried a 4-1 lead into the second stanza.
The Buckeyes roared back with three straight goals to tie the score at 4-4 with 4:49 to play in the second quarter. Udell put the Wolverines back on top with three minutes to play, when he moved around his defender across the cage for the goal to put U-M ahead 5-4 at halftime.
OSU scored the first goal out of the halftime break before CJ Reilly fed Udell for the hat trick to give U-M the 6-5 lead. The Buckeyes shifted the momentum with two straight goals to earn their first lead of the game, 7-6, with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter.
Udell continued his career day, scoring his fourth of the game one minute into the fourth quarter to knot the score at 7-7. The teams entered a defensive battle as Clay forced a turnover with just over 12 minutes left in the game and Taylor made a save with 10 minutes remaining. Michigan suffered a clock violation on its final possession of the game, and the Buckeyes took over with 50 seconds to play. Ohio State thought it had the game-winner with 19.3 seconds on the clock, but a timeout was called just before the shot as the teams took a break before the final play of the game.
After the timeout, OSU worked the ball around, wrapping around from X and buried a shot into the top corner of the cage to score the final goal of the contest with 3.4 seconds remaining.
U-M will await its seeding in the Big Ten Tournament, with quarterfinal games starting Saturday, April 25.
