
Michigan to Travel to Ohio State for Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team (5-8) earned the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will travel to Columbus to take on No. 4 seed Ohio State (10-3) for a noon quarterfinal contest on Saturday (April 25) at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The matchup will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan and Ohio State have met 19 times, with OSU holding a 13-6 advantage. Last week, the Buckeyes won 9-8 on a last-second shot in the regular-season finale.
• U-M is 7-3 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament, including a 3-2 mark in the quarterfinal round. Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament in 2023 and 2024.
• Four Wolverines earned Big Ten Conference honors on Wednesday (April 22): junior Rowan Clay earned first team All-Big Ten honors for the first time in his career, while junior Nick Roode was named to the second team, while Luke Shannehan and Adam Udell were unanimously chosen to the All-Freshman Team. Jack Welcsh was honored as Michigan's Sportsmanship Award honoree after appearing in four games this season.
• Udell put together a career-best game with six points, including a career-high five goals, against Ohio State in the regular-season finale, scoring five of Michigan's eight goals against OSU. He gave Michigan its second lead of the game going into halftime and netted U-M's final three goals of the game. Udell scored twice in the final 14 minutes of the game to tie the contest and assisted on Michigan's second goal of the game. The six-point outing for Udell brought his season goal total to 11, almost doubling the six he had going into the contest.
• The Michigan defense has forced 203 turnovers this season, with 106 caused turnovers. Clay ranks third in the conference with 21 caused turnovers, while Will Tominovich is tied for fourth with 20. Most recently, Tominovich posted three caused turnovers and four ground balls against Ohio State and Penn State, while Clay added two caused turnovers and one ground ball against OSU.
• Shannehan has started all 13 games this season, and ranks second on the team with 35 points and 25 goals. The Fairfield, Conn., native was a two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week (Feb. 3, April 14). The first came after a seven-point performance in his collegiate debut, including five goals, against Mercyhurst. His most recent honor was a result of scoring the game-winning goal in the final 12 seconds against No. 8 Penn State. Shannehan has put together eight multi-point games, with two five-goal outings.
• Michigan set a program record to open the 2026 season as it scored 24 goals against Mercyhurst. The Wolverines broke the previous program record of 23 set on Feb. 22, 2022, against Canisius. U-M went on a 14-1 run to open the game and finished with another 10 straight goals.
• A win against Ohio State would set up a Big Ten Tournament semifinal game against Johns Hopkins at 3 p.m. on Thursday (April 30) at 3 p.m. inside SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. The contest will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
